If you have been following me for a while, you know that I have had my own personal weight loss success a couple years ago. I finally lost my baby weight! It only took almost 4 years and finding something that worked for me. Ever since, I have really enjoyed researching and learning more about fitness and nutrition. So, when I was offered the opportunity to review this “Fit Moms For Life” book, I jumped at it. I will tell you, I was not disappointed, either.

Oh, where do I begin? This book is jammed packed full of helpful and inspiring information. It is written by Dustin Maher, a personal trainer, who had a passion to help stay-at-home moms loose weight and get fit in Madison, WI. With his success in Wisconsin he wrote this book to share his program with more moms across America. He makes working out and incorporating healthy eating seem achievable with a family.![]()
“Dustin takes the reader through the five pillars of fitness: Mindset, Nutrition, Strength Training, Burst Training, and Environment. Ultimately leading to the end goal: Staying Fit for Life.”
In under 200 pages Dustin:
- Inspires with personal stories and before and after pics of many participants
- He explains proper eating and why you want to do it. He also encourages a balanced diet…not cutting out certain food groups.
- He explains the proper way to workout and something called “burst training”.
- He encourages working out 3-4 days a week for an hour or 5-6 days a week with smaller workouts. That’s doable, right?
- He gives tips on how to incorporate and teach your family to eat healthy. He gives tips based on age groups, too.
In addition to all this:
- He gives a sample menu with 3 meal ideas for each meal.
- He demonstrates with pictures a sample workout.
- He offers fitness tips for New Moms and Moms-to-Be.
- Sheets to help document your journey.
- A list of additional resources he likes to refer to.
- And answers to frequently asked questions.
To be honest, I really enjoyed this book. I expected it to be a quick read, but found that my brain could only take in parts of each chapter a day. There was so much information to take in and so much that I wanted to remember! My own personal fitness is always going to be a work in progress and it is nice to have a good resource to refer to. I especially appreciated his section on tips to incorporate healthy eating with children. Some of his tips were, “Why didn’t I think of that” or “that’s what I thought, but I haven’t done that, yet” moments for me. Gotta love those! It is nice to have the book to refer back to for those, too.
Now what I am really jealous of, is that Dustin has the Boot Camps back in Wisconsin that I would L.O.V.E. to attend. But until then he does have some DVDs, if anyone is looking for some actual workout action inspiration. I know I do a lot better when I can see workouts rather than just look at pictures. I am looking into getting BabyTone for after the baby comes to add to all that I am learning in his book.
