Drive In Movie Night at Home {Review}

Summer is upon us and it is always hard to find budget friendly activities that are FUN for our family of 8. I believe I have hit the jackpot with this activity!  We are having a pizza party and a stay home drive in movie night .#SummerGoodies Pizza is always a crowd pleaser but can be pricey when ordering take out. This is an easy problem to fix with DIGIORNO oven ready pizza’s! We started our family activity by heading to our neighborhood  Walmart and getting our supplies. We purchased the DIGIORNO Design A Pizza Kit, DIGIORNO Rising Crust Pizza, and pizzeria! from DIGIORNO. #CollectiveBias

We gathered the rest of our movie night supplies and off we went to go home and get ready!

We set up our night by getting our camping chairs out and setting up the room. If you live someplace cooler than sunny Arizona I would totally do this in the backyard but when it is still over a 100 degrees at movie time an air conditioned family room is much more comfortable!!

Next we set up our concession stand. The kids are so excited about this part it just might as well be Christmas. I set it up and they just got to look at it and stratergize how they were gonna get what they wanted. They each got $2.00 in quarters to spend and nothing else so they had to pick and choose what they wanted to get. This was so much harder for them than I thought it would be but a great math activity! I love throwing in learning activities when they aren’t expecting it!

First off of course was our pizza party! We pulled out our oven ready DIGIORNO pizza’s and got to work. We popped two of our pizzas in the oven and while they cooked we made our DIGIORNO Design A Pizza Kit. I picked the spinach, tomato, red onion and pepperoni kit. There were so many choices it was hard to choose but I am so happy I picked this one it was delicious! The kids had a blast helping put the toppings on. Having the kids interact with food always helps kids be adventuresome and try foods they wouldn’t normally try.

The other pizza’s that we picked were the pizzeria! from DIGIORNO pepperoni and the DIGIORNO Rising Crust cheese pizza. These were all kid approved and super yummy! Add a side salad and dinner was a complete hit.  A huge plus was the cost savings. DIGIORNO oven ready pizza’s are great to have in the freezer for a fun family night at a fraction of the cost of ordering delivery pizza.

Now let our at home drive in movie night begin, after a trip to the concession stand of course!

You have to try this activity out at your house! My kids exclaimed it was the most fun movie night ever!!! It will definitely be added to our summer traditions list.

*Product was received to help facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions are 100% my own!

Summer time is upon us and the question in everybody’s mind is,  “what are we gonna do now????” In my house we have girls, girls, and a few more girls.  Add in a few friends and even more girls. My poor son! If you have girls, likely you have dolls, more dolls than you know what to do with. Here are some fabulously fun activities to do with those wonderful girls and their dolls!

Princess Movie Pajama Party

Invite some friends to come  over in their summer PJ’s with their dolls all ready for bed and watch a fun girly movie. Our movie of choice today was Brave! Pop some popcorn and an instant party has begun.

Pedicures

Pedicures are always a blast and pampering your dolls with new hair and pretend painted nails is fun for any girl!

Tea Party

Tea parties are an all time favorite way to pass an afternoon. Dolls are a great added guest to any party. My kids favorite is to have lemonade, fishes, and mini marshmallows at their tea parties

Birthday Party

Throw a doll birthday party with games, decorations and mini cupcakes. There are lots of fun miniature foods that kids can make too (tiny sandwiches and fruit kabobs on toothpicks etc) . They will enjoy prepping and throwing the party all by themselves. This would be great for older sisters or girls to do for their younger siblings and friends.

Play School

Dolls are a great student and it is a great way for kids to stay up on their learning while making it loads of fun. I always have extra worksheets printed that they can use for playing school. Little do they know they are actually learning (shshsh don’t tell).

All of these fun activities are great for kid of all ages with any kind of doll but can be even more fun with a new doll. Groovy Girls, from parent company The Manhattan Toy Company has a fabulous line of soft plush dolls that are modern and fun and a super cute princess doll and bed. Gutsy Chewy – A Natural Way to Help Your Gut

Gutsy Chewy Products

I had the opportunity to  welcome a package of Gutsy Chewy bottles to try out and review with my family. Call me crazy, but I had been doing a bunch of research on balancing our gut (specificially my own tummy and my daughter). I kept reading that a great way to do this was to drink 1 tsp apple cider vinegar in a cup of water every morning. That does not sound too appealing, right?  My family did not thinks so, either!  Lucky for them we were introduced to Gutsy Chewy.

Now, I bet you are wondering what Gutsy Chewy is. Let me tell you! “Gutsy Products are a friend to your gut with natural benefits®.” This supplement is perfect for…”that queasy uneasy refluxy feeling® with GutBurn™ and GutBloat™ after eating.”  Invented by a gastroenterologist and dentist, this product was not only designed to help your tummy but to be friendly on your oral health at the same time. And as an added perk are free of gluten, lactose and are vegan friendly. Each supplement is the size of a quarter, can easily be divided in half and can be carried in a small tube that easily fits in your purse or diaper bag. It also comes in 2 flavors: Citrus and Wildberry.

Gutsy Chewy Ingredients:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Licorice root
  • Papaya
  • and sweetened with Xylitol

Our Experience

My boys thought I was crazy for trying to introduce apple cider vinegar as a “health benefit”, but hardly batted an eye when I offered them a Gutsy Chewy Supplement. My 6 year old daughter loved them. My son says he likes the Wildberry flavor better. We even had a few opportunities to test these supplements on “tummy upset” after eating other foods. On the Gusty Products website as an example, they typically use supplements as a way to help with the after effects of greasy and fried foods. We do not typically eat these types of food, but I did run into my own episode with heartburn and 1 supplement was plenty to solve the problem. And one night my son was feeling nauseous after eating and he was able to take a Gutsy Chewy with no side effects. We have another tummy medicine that he cannot take because he will throw it up. So, we are loving this as a healthy and natural alternative to other tummy medicines/supplements!

How To Save Water and More with Jimmy’s Green Challenge Starter Kit

I am always looking for ways to help my children become more aware of their surrounds and more responsible. I think they are finally old enough to understand the importance of turning off water or the light when they leave the room and with the help of the Jimmy’s Green Challenge Starter Kit, that we were able to try out, I think we were able to really help them get the idea.

Jimmy's green challenge review

“If you ask Jimmy, every day is Earth Day. His rhyming picture book encourages kids as young as 6-years-old to think about living “green” from the moment they brush their teeth in the morning to when mom turns off the bedroom lights at night. The book Jimmy’s Gone Green is part of a new conservation kit that also includes a poster, green wristbands and a refrigerator magnet. The award-winning book features a green boy who happily shares ten simple steps for kids to improve the environment, starting today.”

Jimmy's Gone Green Challenge Starter Kit

I am a firm believer that you can teach almost every lesson you need with a good story or book. Jimmy’s Green Challenge Starter Kit includes just that. It took a few times reading it to my kiddos for it really sink in, but they started to take the ideas to heart. The kids were excited that we already were doing some of the steps, such as recycling. But we all knew we needed help in the spending less time in the shower department, so we made that our goal to work on.

How To Take Less Than a 5 Minute Shower and Save Water

One of the steps is to take less than  a 5 minute Shower. When we first tried this, we used a timer and I let the kiddos go for it. Telling them to take a fast shower. It did not take long for them to start day dreaming and forget all about the timer. FAIL!

Then we tried it again the next time with me reminding them as every minute passed. “5 minutes left, 4 minute left, etc.” My eight year old son did pretty good, but my six year old daughter who does not like to be rushed was quite upset about speeding through everything. SLIGHTLY SUCCESSFUL!

But then I remembered my scouting days and one of my Professor’s telling me that when she visited Sea Base (a BSA High Adventure Base Camp in Florida), that she had to take 3 minutes or less showers and she shared her secrets on how to do it fast. I always thought it was great idea, especially for camping, and thought my kiddos would appreciate it. Especially my “don’t rush me” daughter. SUCCESS

The Easiest Way to Take a Fast Shower for Children

So this can be used by everyone. My kiddos wanted to show how they are now able to take quick showers in as little as 3 Steps under 5 minutes, but they chose closer to 5. If they had combined steps 2 and 4,  they would have been able to get it down to 3 steps total! Between each step they turned off the water and made sure they were ready to rinse off and went as quick as possible when the water was turned back on. (FYI: Swimsuits were worn on both kiddos for these pictures.)

How to save water when taking a shower.

My son ended up with a shower after 1 min ute and 45 minutes and my daughter, because she had to do conditioner received, 3 minutes and 25 seconds, but both were under 5 minutes. This was a lot of fun for them and a great idea to help them find ways to conserve and more aware of their shower habits.

They have also been having fun with the wrist bands and remembering when they need to switch wrists. Overall, I’m excited to have the book and the challenge as party of our book collection to help encourage and remind my kiddos how they can save a little more energy and resources.

Summer Car Boredom Busters Age 7-12 {Review and Giveaway}

*Product was received to help facilitate this review. Regardless, all opinions are 100% my own!

Hope you enjoyed the first round of our summer boredom busters for the car; now to move on to the big kids. I think they can be harder to entertain because they are more vocal about their boredom and they typically don’t take naps anymore. Man, naps sure make car travel fly. If only I could nap while traveling. Fat chance of that happening with 6 kids in the car. HAHA

Anyway on to our 7-12 year olds! There are endless activities for big kids and I would love to hear your ideas, so please leave me a comment and share away!!!

Ages 7-12

Books: Most kids are readers at this age so a new book can be fun or a book on tape to listen to can be fun for the whole family. You can rent books on tape from the library and even download them to your IPODs for free. Kids can listen to and understand books beyond their reading level so its a great way to introduce something new.

Games, Games, Games: My family loves board games but they can be tricky in the car. But Super Duper Publications has some great games that are totally portable and perfect for the car. They are great for restaurants and keeping kids quiet at church too! My favorite part is they are educational and the kids don’t even notice because they think they are fun!!

I recently got three new ones that my kids really like. Their favorite is Understanding Sentences Fun Deck because it has a little remote that you use to light up the answer. Anything with buttons is fun!! The other games they are enjoying right now are Auditory memory for WH questions and Sentence Fill-In the Deck! They are all games that are good for Kindergarten to 6th grade.

Travel Games for 7-11 year olds

Mad Libs: My kids love mad libs and they all can play together.  Hours of laughter and entertainment for a couple of dollars!

Car Games: Remember all the games you used to play as a kid in the car way before T.V.? Guess what kids still love them you just have to introduce them! I found this car review that has 10 fun games to do in the car and they are perfect to introduce to kids of any age! Check out theses 10 road trip games.I promise you wont be disappointed!!

Activity Books: Never underestimate a new coloring book for an older kid either. Even my 11 year old loves a new coloring book! A word search or soduko book is another great alternative for kids who don’t like to color.  All of these things can be picked up at the $1 store.

One lucky reader will get to win their very own Super Duper Publication game! You can choose from Say and GlueSentence Fill-In the Deck, or Understanding Sentences (our personal favorite)! Enter below and good luck!!!

Fun ways to take a walk {Urbini Stroller Review}

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Urbini. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and as a thank you for participating.”

We have been having some great spring weather and in Arizona it doesn’t last long so we need to enjoy it as much as we can! My kids love taking walks and I have put together a list of 5 fun ways to take a walk with a twist!

5 Fun Ways to Take a Walk

1. Go on a dessert walk. After dinner grab your favorite cold treat (popsicle, ice cream cone etc.) and go for a nice walk around the neighborhood. It is a great way to enjoy a walk when the weather starts to get a little warm.

2. Go on a walk in the rain. This is one of my kids favorite walks. Now I’m not suggesting you go out in a torrential storm but a nice sprinkle is lots of fun to go walking in.

Fun on a dime - family time - stroller

3. Grab your flashlights and head outside for a an after dark walk. This is oodles of fun and you see a whole other side of life outside after dark. We live rural so we can see lots of neat things like owls and bats outside after dark. Personally I’m not all that excited about the bats but the kids love them!

4. Alphabet sounds walk. Who says exercise and fun cant be a little educational too. Before you head out write all the letters of the alphabet down on a piece of paper, grab a clip board and a pencil and you are ready to go. This works great if you have lots of ages because the older kids can write. As you are walking around look for things that start with each letter of the alphabet. (ie: A for airplane, B for boat, C for cactus, D for dandelion etc.) By having all the letters written down before you start you don’t have to find the letters in order.

5. Find the alphabet walk. Check out my post on Rusty and Rosy for a fun twist on finding the alphabet in nature. The kids love this one because they get to use the camera!

Alphabet Nature Walk

Everyone knows that in order to take a walk with little kids a good baby stroller is a must!! I recently received an Urbini Touri Travel System and love using it for walks, running errands, and it would be great for traveling.  I ordered the bright red color and love it.

Urbani Stroller Review 5

I am expecting my 7th child and I have used a lot of strollers and infant seats over the years and I love the bright bold colors. I am currently using the Urbini stroller with my one and a half year old son and it is fabulous. It is super easy to push and super easy to open and close. It folds up nice and compact and is perfect for summer travels.

 Urbani Stroller Review full set

It has a great shade covering that is great in the hot summer weather. Can you tell I love the stroller!! My only con is the cup holder doesn’t work because it swivels and the cup just spills.

Urbani Stroller Review
The car seat is very light and compact. It is nice and narrow which is great if you have other car seats and boosters in the same row. I wish I had had it years ago when I had smaller cars!! It snaps in and out easily and sits in the stroller nicely. I have been recommending it to everyone and people are always asking me where I got it because the color stands out so much! It is one of the best travel systems I have ever had! You definitely can’t beat the price!!

Here are the specs from the company about the Urbini Touri Travel System:

  • Includes Petal Infant Car Seat that holds children up to 35 lbs
  • Lightweight frame
  • Multi-position reclining seat
  • Removable child’s arm bar
  • Tuck away sun visor
  • Roomy storage basket
  • Front suspension wheels
