Ghost Pops

Can you guess what we have been up to? This was a pretty fun and inexpensive Sunday afternoon project. My kiddos saw these Ghost Pops over at their Grandma’s house and have been begging to make their own since. I have seen these around since I was little and often take that for granted. It made a great project and they loved making them! My 4 year old and 6 year old were able to make them all on their own.

What You Need:

  • Tissues (cheapest is fine)
  • Suckers (any kind)
  • Ouchless hair ties (or something else to secure the tissue down – string, rubber bands, twisty ties, etc.). We used what we had on hand
  • Markers (optional)

**Everything cost less than $4!

Directions:

Step 1: Gather supplies and demonstrate the procedure. Wrap sucker with tissue. Place rubber tie over the what is now the ghost’s head, double wrapping is not necessary. Add faces if desired.

Step 2: Let them go to town on their own.

Step 3: Adding the faces had to be my kiddo’s favorite part!

Easy Halloween Project

We now have so many ghosts that we will probably have enough to last us until Christmas to share with everyone. Hopefully, we can give some of these away.

AND for added fun, go to PicMonkey and embellish a picture of your children with their Halloween editor! My kids are going to love seeing this top picture!

Celebrate a Spook-tacular Halloween with Kraft {Giveaway} #KraftHalloween

As soon as the first neighbor starts putting up Halloween decorations or a pumpkin is spotted at the store, my children start to get giddy and asking for some Halloween fun. Luckily this year Kraft Foods helped us out by sending us an awesome box full of Halloween inspired goodies! What do you do with such a large box? Try everything!

Since my children have been trained to be marshmallow lovers, we decided to start with making our own White Chocolate Crispy Pumpkin Spice Treats. More specifically, ghosts and pumpkins.

White Chocolate Crispy Pumpkin Spiced Treats

What You Need:

  • Rice Crispy
  • Jet-Puffed Pumpkin Spice Mallows marshmallows
  • Crisp Rice Cereal
  • White Chocolate
  • Any desired embellishments (mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc)
  • 9×13 pan
  • Sucker sticks or wooden craft sticks
  • Ghost and pumpkin cookie cutters or other spooky shapes

Directions:

Step 1: Follow the directions for how to make Crispy Marshmallow Treats on the back of the marshmallow bag. We decided to make these before we even knew the recipe was on the bag! They made it easy for us! :-)

Step 2: Once you press them into the pan, let them sit for a little bit to cool. Hint: spray hands with cooking spray to keep the mix from sticking to them.

Step 3: Then use the cookie cutters to make your spooky cutouts. Press the mix firmly into each cookie cutter to make them firm. Gently push out each shape onto a piece of wax paper or plate to finish setting. Add a stick to it, if desired, for a popsicle look.

Step 4: Once the treats are completely set, melt the white chocolate and dip the back of the now Crispy Monsters into it.

Step 5: Add desired embellishments. We had mini chocolate chips on hand that worked pretty good for the faces.

Easy Homemade Halloween Decor

Every year I forget about simple Halloween Decor. This year I was at the store and saw a cute bunch of tiny pumpkins and remembered Pumpkin Painting, so I snagged them!

Whenever the kids get antsy for a project, we will pull out a pumpkin and let them paint it to their hearts content. Then we use the finished and unfinished pumpkins as counter and table decorations in our kitchen.

You can paint them any color you want, make faces and get as fancy or keep it as simple as you like. We used glow-in-the-dark paint to finish these 2 off.

As you can see, they love them and are so proud of their work.

My favorite pumpkin looks are the cute ones with stripes and polka dots. You can use masking tape to help make the stripes and dots. But, that will have to be for next year for me!

Halloween Handprint Crafts

After our Monster Theme Day last month, my kiddos have been begging to make more handprint art. They talked for days on about what they wanted to make…Frankenstein and Pumpkins (they are little obsessed with pumpkins in the Fall!) .  We had a lot of fun creating these. If you create your own Halloween Handprint Art, we would love to see what you did, so make sure you share it in a comment below this post! Have fun!

What You Need:

  • At least one hand eager to get messy!
  • Paint

Directions:

Pumpkin Hand Art

Discuss what you would like to make. Once you do one, their imaginations start going and you really can create anything with your hands!

We started with something simple like these pumpkins below…

I painted their palms orange and then they pressed them on the paper to create their pumpkin base.

Then we painted a finger green so they could create the stem.

Frankenstein Hand Art

Then they decided they wanted to make Frankenstein.

We started with painting their palms/thumb green for the face and then their fingers black for the hair. Make sure to put plenty of paint on their hands as we learned the paint dries quickly and had to repaint their hands.

Let the paint dry for a few minutes and then, of course, we had to accessorize with eyes, mouth and stitches. They used their fingers for the eyes and mouth and a toothpick for the stitches.

I was surprised to see how much my kiddos loved making these. They have been asking to make more, but we only have so much room on our fridge and bedroom doors. We’ll have to wait for the next holiday!

Monster Theme Day Ideas

Halloween is coming and I do not know about anyone else, but my kiddos love this time of year. They especially love Monsters. The the cute kind, of course!

With this time of year, I thought it would be a great time to share a favorite childhood book and have some “Monster Time”.  Check out our Monster Theme Day we are sharing over at Rusty and Rosy and see what book was a favorite when I was younger.

Homemade Halloween Pumpkins

Halloween is getting closer and we are just finishing up our pumpkins! My kiddos are even more excited than last year. Last year’s pumpkin was a little crazy looking, but we found a fix for this year’s pumpkins and are loving how they are turning out. I am thinking we are going to make these into candy buckets!

First, we made our pumpkins from this homemade pinata tutorial and once dried we painted them orange.

Second, we found a stencil or silhouette that was easy to cut out. We had fun looking through this list of free pumpkin stencils.

Third, we lightly taped the stencil on and pat the black paint on. Having a 2nd set of hands for this part is very helpful! We started at side and then adjusted the paper for the curve when we started on the opposite side.

Fourth, we let the pumpkins dry and now I am enjoying those happy faces of accomplishment!

ENJOY!!!
